Greetings!
There are only two reviews this week, the first is going to
be this Balea Med Ultra Sensitive Reinigungs Milch (Cleansing Milk, if you
prefer English).
Since Nivea decided to retire their fantastic oil-based
makeup remover, for whatever reason, I had to go looking for a replacement. I
bought a couple different cleansers to test them out, and I decided to buy this
one to see whether the least expensive option could be the best one; that, and
I also really liked how it is made especially for sensitive skin and eyes,
without any colorants, parabens or perfumes.
Packaging: typical Balea type of design, it’s simple and
gets to the point with the info stickers. The cap closes really tightly, and
makes a very satisfying click when you open it. The bottle is plastic and
opaque, so you won’t be able to see how much of the cleanser there is left.
Ingredients: glycerine, panthenol/provitamin B5, niacinamide/vitamin B3, vitamin E for nourishment. No parabens, as advertised. To be fair, panthenol and niacinamide
are relatively low on the ingredients list, so there’s obviously not a large
concentration of them, but at least they are there in some capacity. The scent
is very faint, and smells a bit plasticy and bitter, due to the lack of
synthetic perfumes. The expiration date is 6 months after opening.
The formula is not too thick, it’s actually really greasy
and soapy. It’s white and looks milky, indeed, both in colour and consistency.
It also feels extremely greasy on skin, too. This is a
relatively heavy formula but it feels surprisingly light for such a greasy
formula. Thanks to the greasiness it’s extremely easy to spread across the skin.
Now, this is a makeup remover, right? So I should mention how
good it is at removing makeup. It’s not as good as the Nivea remover, sadly. But
it is not a bad remover; I managed to remove black smoky eyeshadow and mascara
without significant issues, but it can struggle with liquid eyeliners or liquid
lipsticks. By that I mean that it won’t remove them entirely, so you’ll either have
to apply the remover again or wipe it off with micellar water. I was surprised
that it removed the dark and intense eyeshadow as easily as it did, I was
totally expecting there to be leftover shadow but nope, it was completely
removed. So, in the end, I was pleasantly surprised with the removing power of
this remover.
I do have to mention that this remover doesn’t cause any
irritations or pimples on my sensitive skin, so it really does seem like it is
ultra gentle. But, and this is bad, it makes my eyes sting. It was made for face and
eyes, and yet it burns my eyes, despite being so gentle. The stinging
sensation isn’t extreme and it goes away rather quickly but it is very
uncomfortable. I really don’t know why I am feeling this stinging or what
ingredient could be causing it, and it’s really disappointing, because I’d
hoped it would be good. It doesn’t affect my vision, though, and it is
extremely easy to wash out of eyes.
It’s also extremely easy to wash off, and it doesn’t leave
any greasy residue. I like how my skin feels after washing this remover off, it
feels rather balanced and clean. I doubt there will be any positive effects
regarding the state of my skin after a while using it, but it is also looking
highly unlikely there will be any negative effects either. So it seems that it
is balanced well for the microbiome of the skin.
Conclusion: even though it is good at removing makeup, it
struggles with more durable makeup, like liquid lipsticks or liquid eyeliners. I
was also really disappointed with the fact that this remover irritates my eyes,
causing an annoying stinging feeling, since this was made to be used on eyes as
well. It’s also extremely greasy and feels somewhat heavy on skin. Besides
that, there are no other irritations or problems with this remover. It’s nice
that there aren’t any perfumes (which could cause allergies), and I like how my
skin feels clean and balanced after washing it with this cleanser. But the
feeling of disappointment remains. This cleanser could have been great, and for
a great price, but the eye stinging makes it really difficult to keep using.,
so I doubt that I will be giving my recommendation. Of course, YMMV with
regards to the eye stinging, but it stings my sensitive eyes, which this was
primarily made for.
