Maybelline Hydra Extreme Lipstick [175 - Miss Tender] Review
By Maychiri's Thoughts - April 19, 2023
First we had a vibrant red lipstick, now it’s time for a
more gentle colour. This is the Maybelline Hydra Extreme Lipstick, in the shade
175/Miss Tender (technically, Мисс нежность, which means Miss Nezhnost’)!
I saw this lipstick at Müller one day and, while I liked the
colour, I just didn’t think it was special enough to buy. Then I noticed the
tag with the name of the shade: it’s in Cyrillic! That really tickled my funny
bone, don’t know why! But I left it there. And then I couldn’t stop thinking
about it, about how funny it would be to have a lipstick whose name is in
Russian Cyrillic. So the next time I visited DM I made it my mission to buy
this lipstick! I will have the Russian lipstick! Side note: that was funny
then; it’s a bit different now, with the war and all. Hmm. Well, anyways, let’s
see if it is as good as the other Hydra Extreme lipsticks!
Packaging: just a red plastic case. There are no details on
it, but it is glossy and curved, which gives it this elegance! It certainly
stands out! The cap closes tightly. The retracting mechanism is very robust and
well-made. I like the design of the case!
Fun fact, the shade name is in
Cyrillic, for whatever reason!
Ingredients: squalane, jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) seed
oil, shea (Butyrospermum parkii) butter, vitamin E, atelocollagen for
nourishment. Look at that, emollients (jojoba, shea) and collagen? Wonderful!
This should definitely nourish lips and make them softer. This lipstick has
SPF15, achieved using Uvinul MC80/ethyhexyl methoxycinnamate, which is a UVB
sunscreen. SPF15 isn’t much, but it is something. No parabens.
The scent is,
well, this is a Maybelline lipstick, so it can only really smell like one
thing: vanilla. Indeed, it smells very sweet, like vanilla or cookies. It’s
delicious! The expiration date is 24 months after opening.
Colour: a soft, subtle rosewood. So, a medium dark rose
colour with a fair amount of red pigments, giving it a more rosy colour than
pinky. It’s a great colour for everyday wear because it is not too vibrant, but
also very elegant at the same time. It looks mauvey on my skin; although I
think it could be used as a nude, neutral shade on darker skin. On me it is
relatively dark, but I have ghostly pale skin, soo... This colour goes with
pretty much anything, it’s so wearable and beautiful! It really is tender!
Pigmentation: extremely pigmented, like, it’s got such good
pigmentation that you’d think this was a liquid lipstick, not a satin, creamy
lipstick! And it is totally even, too! The slightest touch is enough to give
you a stunningly pigmented, rich layer of colour. Despite that this lipstick
isn’t difficult or messy to use. It’s in fact very easy to use, and it is
really easy to line your lips with the bullet. It doesn’t end up looking
smudgy, either. The texture is highly satin, creamy, and almost wet-looking.

The formula is breath-taking! It’s so creamy, like the most
luxurious balm! Since it is so creamy it literally glides across lips,
depositing a perfectly even layer of colour. It does not pile up and it never
tugs on the lips; naturally, it would be quite bizarre if such a creamy formula
started tugging at the lips. So all that makes it a dream to use! This formula
bleeds into the lips, hydrating them through the day, and you can literally
feel how hydrating it is! It does become drier the longer you wear it, but it
never becomes uncomfortable. It is only slightly drier, like matte lipsticks. So
it’s perfect if you need to wear lipstick for a very long time and you want it
to be supremely comfortable. Naturally, it does not dry out my lips one bit.

This lipstick actually has great longevity, which is
especially great because it is a creamy, satin lipstick! 7 hours later it still
looks amazing, with absolutely no smudging or feathering. It also does not
collect on the middle of my lower lip, which is a common occurrence that is
annoying. It does not fade, either. The only thing that makes it fade is food;
namely, it really does not do well with eating or drinking. Even non-greasy
food will make it fade on the centre, which, really, is pretty common for
creamy or satin lipsticks, and this one is both. So, in terms of satin
lipsticks, this one has far above average longevity, which took me by surprise!
I thought it would start to fade and have a lot of feathering after 7 hours!
Excellent!
Removal: easy as pie! Micellar water or specialised remover,
it does not matter, they all remove this lipstick with ease. It comes off
without a lot of rubbing. And it does not leave any stains.
All in all, I really like this lipstick! I bought it because
its name is in Cyrillic, so I didn’t have any expectations at all. This isn’t
even my preferred type of lipstick in terms of colour. So I thought, ah what
the hell, even if it’s bad, who cares. However, it is exactly the opposite of
bad, it is in fact amazing! The formula is dreamy, rich and hydrating and
really does hydrate the lips throughout the day. The name Hydra Extreme is apt,
in this case! It is also super easy to apply and make it even and sharp, even
straight from the bullet. The satin, creamy finish looks high-end, even if it
does not have 1/10 of the price! It’s really long-lasting, surviving 7 hours
without any real changes, which is phenomenal for such a creamy lipstick! There
is only one flaw, and it’s that food destroys it. You will, for certain, have to
reapply it after eating, as it will have faded along the centre of the lips.
However, that’s not a huge problem because it is so easy to apply. And the colour!
It is a really tender, elegant rosewood rose colour, incredibly versatile, so
you can wear it for any occasion, even everyday! It’s actually especially good
for casual, everyday looks! It may not be my favourite shade of rose, but it is
stunning nonetheless. Although it is a bit dark on me, so I cannot use it as a
neutral or nude lipstick. For some reason, this is Maybelline’s cheapest
lipstick range. Yet they are so much better than the Color
Sensational ones. So, if you manage to find this lipstick, and you love satin
lipsticks, feel free to buy this one, you will love it, I am sure! Miss Tender
gets my recommendation easily!
