Essence Yee Haw! Shiny Lipgloss [01 - It's Me, Howdy!] Review

By Maychiri's Thoughts - August 03, 2025

Ah, we are already at the last lip product from this western-style LE... this is the Essence Yee Haw! Shiny Lipgloss, shade 01/It's Me, Howdy! (the only shade available)

Well howdy, indeed! I was debating originally whether to get this lip gloss or not, but it sure looks like a Juicy Bomb and those are sooo good, so it shall be purchased ASAP! Possibly the most glossy of the lip products in this LE, if it’s anything like a Juicy Bomb is usually; for someone who craves juicy, glassy gloss, it is very exciting to me to finally be able to try this lip gloss! I thought it would be sold out immediately (little girls usually buy out these Juicy Bomb variants within a few days), but I was able to snag one while stocks were still at a healthy level. To me, this looks like a Juicy Bomb, only, make it cowboy, which, I'd Lie if I said I didn’t love this I just know that it’s going to be fantastic, I can feel that deep inside... but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves – this needs to first be tested out properly, before coming to any such conclusions! So let’s try it out already!

Reminder that you can see a video of the swatch on my Instagram Reel here

Packaging: hmm, remind you of anything, this little tube? Seem familiar, mayhaps? Yeah, it’s exactly the same as the Juicy Bombs. Same shape, same size, same stripe along the top, same cap. I guess you could say that this is a Juicy Bomb in sheep's cowboys clothing, haha! I don’t mind, I love the Juicy Bomb design; it’s a timeless classic. It's a soft plastic tube with a darker stripe going across the top. The soft material of the tube allows you to easily squeeze out however much product you want. I love the theming here! It is so western! The text in the front is soft pink, which is not only a great colour combo on its own, but ties to the rest of the LE, as pink/brown is a theme here. But this shade of pink with this burnt golden colour? Chef’s kiss!

Just perfect! The contrasting band is dark leather brown, to add to that whole Wild West theme; it also goes perfectly with both the pink and the golden colour of the lip gloss inside. The cap is the same colour as the lip gloss. See how it’s all tied together so nicely? Amazing attention to detail, though you won’t find a print of a pair of cowboy boots here, sadly. Or it’s for the best, because it would be cluttered otherwise. All the information is in the back, in white text, which makes it easier to read, though pink would be better theming-wise.

The cap might seem like it doesn’t close tightly but oh it does! It screws on, so it is as secure as could be! I have never (so far) had a Juicy Bomb leak on me so it’s obvious how tightly it closes. The applicator inside is stubby, wide and angled, with a relatively large hole through which the lip gloss comes out. Simple design, but it works! And since it matches the rest of the Juicy Bombs, it looks awesome next to them.

Ingredients: almond (Prunus amygdalus dulcis) oil, Stevia rebaudiana extract, vitamin E, glycerine for nourishment. No parabens. The ingredients list might seem basic, but trust me, it performs better, and is more hydrating than what this list implies. You’ll see soon The perfume is quite high up the list, and that is very evident with the way this lip gloss smells. There’s also vanillin, which is immediately recognisable in the scent profile. Now, let me preface this by saying that I am a known caramel hater. I don’t even know why, but caramel just makes me retch. Especially toffee... that is vile to me. So, why, then is this caramel scent so intoxicating to me? Because it smells aggressively like caramel but that’s the thing, it’s not plain caramel, it’s toasted caramel. Those notes of burnt caramel are positively delicious! And then you also add the vanilla, and you get a scent that it is dangerously tasty... I, I just want to squeeze it out onto my tongue and eat it! This craving gets especially bad at the end of my cycle... but they say that you shouldn’t eat it :(. Big sadge. Guess I’ll just have to restrain myself. It is a perfectly gourmand scent, and it doesn’t smell one bit synthetic. I could literally keep smelling it the entire day, it is that yummy. And it tastes the same when you apply it! Maybe this little taste will be enough for me? However, if caramel scents trigger your nausea... welp, this gloss won’t be good for you. The expiration date is just 6 months after opening; I am sure I will use it up by then!

Aha, yeah, so, just like the other Juicy Bombs, it doesn’t have a specific applicator. Let me explain. In order to apply the lip gloss, you have to squeeze it out of the tube and then apply it using the angled nozzle it has at the end. This is far from ideal, as it lacks any sort of precision. And it usually applies way too much lip gloss – if such a thing even exists! Not for me it doesn’t! The applicator is quite soft, so it doesn’t feel aggressive on the lips, which makes it that much easier to apply the lip gloss when you aren’t trying to tolerate aggressive scrubbing. No, this is gentle, even if you press down harder. The applicator excels at spreading the lip gloss evenly and richly across the lips; it takes literally 3-4 seconds until it is spread evenly and thickly all over.

And since the tube is soft, you don’t need to use extra force to squeeze it out, which is easier on the wrist. Just be careful because it is easier than it seems to squeeze out too much gloss! Again, I would prefer a doe foot, but all Juicy Bombs have this same type of nozzle and it obviously works, so why change it?

This lip gloss is described as having a slight golden colour. I would agree; there’s just a tinge of a slight brownish colour to my lips, so it can safely be worn over any other lip product without messing with its colour too much. I prefer this; sometimes I do need a coloured lip gloss to change the colour of a lipstick, but this is way more useful to me because it is so neutral. Since it has that bit of a brownish tinge, it also looks great worn on its own, not at all pale or anaemic.

However, what isn’t mostly colourless is the shimmer. It’s extremely fine, looking like the finest diamond powder. It’s a mixture of golden, yellow and orange shimmer, which not only goes perfectly with this whole LE, but also looks good on any skintone. It for sure looked much darker golden in the tube, but I am glad that it’s this subtle on the lips. It makes it so much more wearable. The golden shimmer is so gorgeous, and makes any lip product under it even more beautiful! Gorgeous shimmer, truly!

So... about the formula. This is just a Juicy Bomb wearing a cowboy disguise, which I don’t mean in a negative or derogatory way. Quite the opposite! I adore the Juicy Bomb, so I am overjoyed to see its formula reused here! To recap what it’s like, in case you haven’t yet used the Juicy Bomb (which you should, like, right now!): it is thin and very slippery. Not exactly oily, it just feels smooth and slippery in the lips. And not one bit occlusive!

This is the type of formula I prefer, one that
feels like it is actively hydrating the lips while also locking in moisture without feeling like a thick slab of grease on the lips. The formula is runny, though, because it is so hydrating. So you might have some issues with it piling in the corners of the lips. But despite being thin, it feels very hydrating and just good on the lips, without ever feeling heavy. It’s honestly perfection – I can see why the Juicy Bomb is so popular!

Okay, so, I already mentioned earlier that this lip gloss does not come with a separate applicator, and you have to apply it using the tube’s nozzle. This makes applying the lip gloss a bit more tricky. The shape of the nozzle is good for swiping the lip gloss across the entire lips, but it struggles to apply the gloss equally precisely in tighter areas, like the cupid’s bow or the corners of the mouth. It usually creates a bit of a mess there, spilling over onto the skin. But, since this gloss isn’t very colourful, this isn’t a huge issue.

The gloss itself is phenomenally smooth! It glides over lips without ever tugging at them, even if they are all chapped and dry! What a dream! And it applies thickly and evenly, with zero effort  needed! So, as long as you are careful with the nozzle, applying this lip gloss should be a breeze!

Oh yeah... oh yeah, this texture is IT! Oh, how I love the Juicy Bomb’s glossiness! This being a Juicy Bomb in disguise, it, too has that insanely glossy texture. It’s that watery type of gloss, that looks ultra hydrating. Not oily, not greasy, not even gellyjust pure watery hydrating goodness! And it’s so freaking extremely glossy, ahh! It’s mega glossy even in the dark! So if you crave gloss the same way I do, this lip gloss will be for you. I know that it and I, we’re a match made in heaven!

But – here’s the thing: it’s not just glossy! It hides one ace of spades up it’s sleeve: shimmer! The shimmer is tiny and spread evenly, so it doesn’t look cheap or bunched up. In natural light, it sparkles gently, adding that touch of elegance to an already seriously gorgeous texture. But look at it under a flashlight – go ahead! That’s when the sparkling and glimmering gets dialled up to 11! Under this kind of bright light, it sparkles like a million tiny diamonds, which is so breath-taking to see IRL!

I am literally in love! Shame that it’s not as visible on camera. But IRL, it looks stunning! I cannot stop looking at it from how mesmerising it is! And the F of it all is that it never looks cheap! Like, this is actually incredible!

While this gloss is wonderfully hydrating feeling on the lips, it does also create an occlusive barrier so that they don’t dry out. However, this barrier is actually mad comfy! It can sometimes feel a bit goopy, but most of the time, it feels more like a luxurious lip oil than anything else! At first, it feels watery and hydrating, with some gelliness to it, and never tacky. After some time, it changes into a more dry formula, which is standard stuff, and it still retains 98% of that initial comfort.

So, in short, it is comfy as hell! And it doesn’t create that awful crust on my lower lip! It just feels like a nice, comfortable shield on my lips, that will protect them from drying out or becoming chapped. And that’s exactly what it does! It never dries out lips; instead, it keeps them soft the entire day! And that’s without a ton of caring ingredients –  proving just how important the right formulation is.

It soothes irritations on the lips momentarily, making a great choice to pick if your lips need an SOS! See why I have converted to Juicy-Bomb-ism? It’s a phenomenal lip gloss, even if it is currently cosplaying a cowboy!

Longevity sucks, okay, no way around it. However, I don’t mind that here. Why? Because this is a watery-type lip gloss and these will always have crappy longevity, no matter if they cost 2 € or 200 €. That’s the honest truth. This formula is meant to be reapplied constantly, which, on the positive side, means that the lips are getting a fresh shot of hydration often during the day. This is good if your lips tend to be dry. However, on the negative side, it is annoying to have to reapply it often and it can mess up lipstick underneath if you reapply it one too many times.

But let’s go back to the application process and remember how easy that was... suddenly, reapplying this lip gloss doesn’t seem like that much of a chore, now does it? Anyways, since it is watery, anything and everything will make it fade. Saliva, water, any other drinks... everything. Especially saliva. If you tend to lick your lips a lot during the day, expect to have to reapply this every hour or two. Same goes for food; it doesn’t have to be greasy food, as long as you eat something, the lip gloss will smudge off.

But, since it is not crazy pigmented, the damage isn’t really visible. There’s less gloss, sure, but it’s not bad-looking by any means. That’s if you wear it solo; worn on top of other lip products, things may become more problematic. But on its own, it really doesn’t last long. Again, this type of lip gloss is simply like this, this is its nature, so it’s no better or worse than any other lip gloss that is similarly watery feeling.

Extremely easy to remove – possibly one of the easiest lip glosses to remove, even! It can be removed with a moist cotton pad and it doesn’t leave a grossly waxy residue on the lips, although I would recommend removing it with micellar water or a specialised remover. That will be even quicker, just a few seconds, one swipe, and ta-da! All removed! And the shimmer doesn’t go everywhere on your face. Yeah, there’s really nothing bad with this lip gloss, is there?

In conclusion, yup, just like I suspected, this is the stand-out product in this LE – at least, from the ones I tried. And of course it would be, when this is one of Essence’s most popular products ever, just wearing a cowboy disguise. Because there is nothing that the Juicy Bomb cannot be – damn right! In contrast with the standard Juicy Bomb shades, this one is darker and ever so slightly more pigmented, with more intense shimmer inside. The colour of the gloss in the tube reminds me of old, dried out hay, sitting out in the sun, in front of a dusty old barn. The colouring of the tube itself is very western-themed as well, featuring darker browns that reminds of leather. And cowboys and leather? What a match! I love almost everything about this lip gloss, but, then again, I do adore the Juicy Bomb, so I expected to love this version just as much – if not more. It’s got everything that makes the Juicy Bomb so awesome: soft tube that makes it easy to squeeze out the lip gloss, easy to use applicator that spreads the lip gloss very thickly across lips while still being even, and a simply divine formula! There is maybe one tiny issue with how it applies because it tends to apply too thickly in the corners of the lips, but since it isn’t pigmented much, this is not a huge issue. And it’s easy to fix. But man, this formula! I would die for this formula – it is that good! It’s so extremely juicy and watery and so, so comfy! But don’t mistake me saying this for it being way too thin – it’s got a pleasant thickness to it that feels more slippery than anything else, and never sticky. Never! Not even a few hours alter, when it dries down! In fact, it becomes even more comfortable then;  that’s when it has already absorbed into the lips and hydrated then, so, of course it would feel even better! This is by far my favourite kind of lip gloss formula, not that old goopy, occlusive one that the Lip Oil (and the Lip Beautifier to some degree) has! No, this is both comfortable, hydrating, AND stunning to look at! Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that it hydrates the lips despite not having many hydrating or nourishing ingredients? Because it does! My lips are in better condition after a day of wearing this lip gloss than before, even if they were all chapped and dry! Such is the power of Juicy Bomb! But, it’s not exactly 100% perfect, because there is one flaw I must mention: it has really bad longevity. It doesn’t take long for even just saliva to wash it off, so, as you can imagine, it doesn’t survive any meals or drinks. You’ll have to reapply it multiple times during the day, sadly. Here’s the thing, though: most lip glosses that have this kind of watery, hydration formula behave like this. It’s just a flaw inherent to the formula type. So I don’t mind it. If anything, it will give my lips more hydration from all the reapplications! One other benefit to having this kind of formula rather than a greasy, occlusive one is that it takes literally a few seconds to remove it and it doesn’t leave a waxy residue (unlike the previous lip products from this LE)! Ready for more awesomeness? Well, I hope y’all are ready because it is coming! The colour – specifically, the shimmer! OMG, how I love it! It is absolutely gorgeous, especially when it’s in direct light, oh man is it stunning then! It twinkles like a million little diamonds but not in a garish way, since the shimmer is so teeny tiny. It adds dimension and so much elegance to the lips, it’s unbelievable! And in dimmer lighting conditions, it still gives a lot of dimensionality, with visible specks of shimmer dust inside evenly distributed. It’s just perfect! No other way to describe it! The colour is very subtle, just a slight brownish tone that makes the lips look healthy and plump – oh, and it mixes beautifully with this golden shimmer! Gold shimmer can easily become garish, but here it is simply endlessly elegant! As it the insane amount of gloss! You want gloss? Oh, you’ll get gloss here – and then some! It has a glassy finish, with such a high amount of gloss that lips look plumpy and juicy and so stunning! By far, the best result of the 3 lip products in this LE. I cannot stop looking at my lips with this on, it is mesmerising! OMG, I almost forgot to mention this! If you’ve used a Juicy Bomb before, you’ll know that they always have highly realistic, delicious scents and flavours, right? Well, you can bet your behind that this one follows suit, and oh does it! You know it’s seriously delicious when even a caramel hater like loves it! It smells like toasted caramel, but in that mouth-watering roasted kind of way, not too sweet. It also tastes incredible; not too caramel-like, and definitely not obnoxiously sweet. I want to just eat it, ahh! But no eating, they say! Damn... but it is sooo yummy... Seriously, if you are looking to buy just one product from this whole LE, make it this one, you will not regret it – I assure you! Ahh, I am deeply in love with this lip gloss! It is everything I was hoping it would be... it’s quite frankly, perfect! If there’s just one product that would seriously make me go “Yee Haw!, it’s surely this one. So, let’s finally give it what it so very much deserves, shall we? It gets my top recommendation! I am ecstatic to say that! It is soooooo goooood!!! I just hope I am able to find a couple more because I NEEEEED them! What a grand way to finish the lip products, yay! 🥰
